Early Registration

Have you ever signed up for a class only to find it cancelled? Have you later discovered a friend who wanted to take it, too, but hadn't registered? Or maybe you've planned to take a class and arrived the first session to find it cancelled for lack of enrollment. Well, here are two ways to help keep your selected class on the schedule.

Continuing Education classes begin in different weeks and months. Check start dates to be sure you won't miss a course.

  • Register early -- do it today! Each class has a minimum required enrollment. Once that number is reached, the class is a "go".
  • If you find a class you like, encourage a friend to join you. Sometimes two or three people make the difference between "Go" or "Cancel." So, the word about waiting is DON'T! Register NOW.
    Continuing Education Fees

There will be no processing fee for Continuing Education classes.

The new fee structure is listed below:

    $50 for 0 - 10 hours

    $55 for 11 - 30 hours

    $60 for 31 - 100 hours

$65 for more than 100 hours.

Please note: Classes are fee-exempt for person 65 years of age or older. (Does not apply to self-supporting classes.)

    Dropping and Adding Classes

If you want to drop a class, you must fill out a drop/add form. Depending on when you drop the class, the college will refund your registration fee. See Refunds, below. If you want to add a class, you can register up until the first day of class. You can replace one course with another if they have the same registration fee by filling out the drop/add form.

    Refunds

The refund policy for Bladen Community College's Continuing Education Division was established by the North Carolina Department of Community Colleges, Raleigh on October 15, 1993.

    Brief Statement of Policy:

  1. A pre-registered extension student who officially withdraws from an extension class(es) prior to the first meeting of the class will be eligible for a 100 percent refund by completing an official request form.
  2. The refund will be 75 percent if requested prior to the 10 percent date of the class(es) meeting.
  3. No refunds will be given after 10 percent of class meetings.
     Repeating a Class

North Carolina legislation states that Community Colleges may permit a student to repeat a course more than once if that student demonstrates that the repetition is required by standards governing the certificate or licensing program in which the student is enrolled. The policy applies to occupational courses ONLY. A predetermined rate of approximately $5.00 per scheduled hour would be charged to those individuals who had taken occupational extension course more than twice and were not otherwise exempt.

    Occupational Extension

Occupational Extension courses consist of single courses, each complete of itself, designed for the specific purposes of training an individual for full-or part-time employment, upgrading the skills of persons presently employed, and retraining others for new employment in occupational fields.

They can improve their reading, writing, mathematics, and communication skills through five major programs: General Education Development(GED), Adult High School (AHS), English as a Second Language (ESL), and Compensatory Education (CED). Classes are free of charge and are offered in a variety of settings and at convenient times. Over 12,000 classes are offered annually on community college campuses, work sites, churches, public schools, community centers, libraries, homeless shelters, correctional institutions, and other locations.
