Text Box: BCC Welcomes
Dr. William Findt
to Presidency

Bladen Community College’s new president, Dr. William Findt, is off and running on the job. His first day was Friday, August 1, and he is working on learning everything about his new college and campus family.

Dr. Findt is a career educator with more than 30 years experience in the North Carolina Community College System. No stranger to southeastern North Carolina, Findt began his career in education at Garland High School as a social studies teacher. He later was Dean of Continuing Education at Sampson Community College.

Findt’s career later took him to Alamance Community College for 10 years and then to Mitchell Community College, a school he had attended before it became a part of the North Carolina Community College System. He had worked for more than 15 years at Mitchell when he was selected to head BCC.

He has served in a number of positions over his management career, including Dean of Continuing Education, Dean of Instruction, and Executive Vice President for Development and Community Relations.

Findt said, in a Tuesday interview, that he believes his experiences in a variety of positions will serve him well in adapting to his new job. He added that he is excited about having the opportunity to lead BCC.

Findt, a native of Indiana who came to North Carolina when he entered high school, completed his bachelor’s degree at Wake Forest University, his master’s degree at Appalachian State University, and his doctorate at Virginia Tech. He and his wife, JoAnne, have three grown daughters and three grandchildren.

“I feel honored to have been chosen by the trustees, whom I feel are very committed to the college,” said Findt. “In my initial interview with them, I sensed that they were concerned about the future of the college and you don’t find that everywhere.

Dr. Findt will be contributing a message to THE EAGLE each month. See this month’s message on page 3.
