Course Description:  This course introduces the gas tungsten arc (Tig) welding process.  Topics include correct selection of tungsten, polarity, gas, and proper filler rod with emphasis placed on safety, equipment setup, and welding techniques.  Upon completion, students should be able to perform GTAW fillet and groove welds with various electrodes and filler materials.

 

Prerequisite:  None

Student Supplies:  Gloves, Safety Glasses, Boots made of leather and at least ankle high.

 

Requirements:  You must attend 80% of the scheduled class hours, less than 80%

                            attendance will result in a grade of "F" for the course.

 

Competencies:  Complete all course assignments.

                           

                            You should understand machine setup and amperage selection for

    various joint configurations, positions, and electrodes and filler metal

    size and selection

 

                            You must produce the following:  Single-V Groove welds in the 2G, 5G

                            6G positions, and fillet welds in the 2F, 3F, and 4F positions with filler

                            material matching the base metal properties.

 

Grading:         Attendance         40%

                        Exam                  20%

 

                        (A = 90-100, B = 80-89, C = 70-79, D = 60-69, F = Below 60)

SMAW (Stick) Plate

Course Description:  This course is designed to enhance skills with the shield metal arc (stick) welding process.  Emphasis is placed on advancing manipulative skills with SMAW electrodes on varying joint geometry.  Upon completion, students should be able to perform groove welds on carbon steel with prescribed electrodes in the flats, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.  (Students should be able to weld Groove welds with and without backing on plate and be introduced to pipe welding joint geometry, manipulative skills, and positions.)

 

Perquisite:  WLD 115

Text:  Welding Principles and Applications

than 80% attendance will result with a grade of "F" for the

course.

 

You will be responsible for cleaning your area and all students

will be responsible for cleaning the entire shop.

 

Competencies:   Complete all class assignments.

 

You must produce the following: Horizontal, Vertical, and

Overhead groove weld on plate with and without backing with

and without prescribed electrodes.

 

Horizontal, vertical, and 45 degree inclined fixed positions on

pipe with prescribed electrodes.

 

You should understand machine setup and amperage selection

for various joint configurations, positions and electrode size

selection.
