DATABASE CONCEPTS

COURSE SYLLABUS

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course introduces database design and creation using DBMS product.  Topics include database terminology, usage in industry, design theory, types of DBMS models, and creation of simple tables, queries, reports and forms.  Upon completion, students should be able to create simple database tables, queries, reports, and forms which follow acceptable design practices.

Prerequisite: CIS 110, CIS 111 or CIS 115

Corequisite: None

Notebook for notes and to keep assignments together

Flash Drive (Can be purchased at Bookstore or Wal-Mart)

Completion of textbook/class lessons 50%

Mid-term exam 25%

Final Exam 25%

90 - 100           A

80 - 89             B

70 - 79             C

60 - 69             D

  0 - 59             F

There is a tremendous amount of work to be done in this class.  Make sure you have your disks and books with you at all times.  If you miss a class it will be your responsibility to come outside of class to make it up, preferably before the next class meeting.  My office hours are posted at the end of this syllabus.  The computer lab will be open during these times for extra help or catch up time.
