REQUIRED TEXT: Stephen L. Harris, The New Testament: A Student’s Introduction
This course is designed to give students a survey of the literature of first-century Christianity with readings from the gospels, Acts, and the Pauline and pastoral letters. Topics include the literary structure, audience, and religious perspective of the writings, as well as the historical and cultural context of the early Christian community.
A. Through at least 70% accuracy on tests, students will show their understanding of material presented in the textbook, lectures, films, and handouts.
B. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to use the tools of critical analysis to read and understand New Testament literature.
C. Through class discussions and written exercises, students will demonstrate their ability to relate New Testament writings to their historical and cultural context and to the modern world.
