COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

This course is an examination of religious beliefs and practice in the United States.  Emphasis is placed on mainstream religious traditions and non-traditional religious movements from the colonial period to the present.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

Students should be able to recognize and appreciate the diversity of religious traditions in America.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

 

Four Tests        30% of grade

Tests will consist of terms to identify in the form of matching.  The terms will be given to the students at the beginning of the course by the instructor.

Course Notebook        70% of grade

 

GRADING SCALE:

 

90-100             A

80-89               B

70-79               C

60-69               D

Below 60         F

 

NOTEBOOKS

 

Students will include in their course notebook the textbook discussion questions for each chapter in the text.  The terms to identify for each test should be defined in the notebook.  Students will also be given questions related to the videotapes to answer in their notebook.  The notebook must be typed.  The questions should be typed followed by the answer.  The notebook is due at the time of testing for those chapters and videotapes covered by the test.  The material should be placed in a three-ring notebook when turned into the instructor.  Notebooks handed in late will be assessed penalty points.  

 

 

Your notebook should be arranged in this order:

 

1)      Terms to identify defined

2)      Discussion questions typed and answered

3)      Videotape questions typed and answered
