COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the course is to introduce the student to the scientific study of human society, culture, and social interaction. Topics include socialization, research methods, diversity and inequality, cooperation and conflict, social change, social institutions, and organizations.
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of sociological concepts as they apply to the interplay among individuals, groups and societies.

Four tests 30%
Glossary terms at the end of the chapters in the text will be in the form of matching on the test.

NOTEBOOKS:
Glossary terms for each test should be defined in the notebook. Glossary terms are taken from the text. Students should also view the videos and answer the video questions in the notebook. The question should be typed followed by the answer. For each video lesson, there is a corresponding lesson in the Telecourse Guide. All Focal Point questions in the Telecourse Guide should be answered in the notebook. The question should be typed, followed by the answer. Answers to questions are not short answer. Students should thoroughly discuss in the notebook the answer to each question. Students should pick up their notebooks after they have been graded.
Your notebook should be arranged in this order:
1) Glossary terms defined
2) Video questions typed and answered
3) Focal Point questions typed and answered
The notebook must be typed. The question should be typed, followed by the answer. The notebook is due at the time of testing for those videotapes and corresponding telecourse guide lessons covered by the test. The material should be placed in a three-ring notebook when turned in to the instructor.
