  • Decimals
  • Percent
  • Statistics
  • Algebraic Expressions
  • Equations and Inequalities

GOALS/STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Read and write whole numbers and decimals
  • Give the place value of digits in whole numbers and decimal numbers
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimal numbers
  • Round whole numbers and decimal numbers to an indicated place value
  • Estimate and solve word problems with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Use divisibility rules to determine if a whole number is divisible by 2, 3, 5, 6, 10
  • Find the prime factorization of whole numbers
  • Use exponents
  • Find the square root of a perfect square number
  • Use the order of operations to evaluate expressions
  • Reduce fractions to lowest terms
  • Change fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions

EVALUATION:

  • Class Participation/Attendance        15%                    Chapter Test                                             50%
  • Homework/Quiz/Exercises          15%                  Final                                                    20%

GRADING SCALE:

  • A 100-90               B 89-80                 C 79-70                                 D  69-60                                F  59-0

* NOTE:  A grade of C (70) or better is required to successfully complete this class and progress in the developmental program.

COURSE MANAGEMENT:

  • Four credit hours.
  • Prerequisite:  None
  • Class attendance of 100% is expected.    If absences exceed 20 %, (combined with classes held before the student entered the class, if any) the student will be dropped from the course.
  • Students who miss 2 consecutive weeks of class will be dropped from the course
  • Each student will begin the semester with a 100 score for their attendance.  For each day that is missed, regardless of the reason, two points will be deducted from the score.  The final total will be used when calculating the final grade for the class.
  • Tardiness/ Leaving Early:  “Students are expected to be in their positions ready for instruction at the time scheduled for class to begin.  Any deviation from this procedure is disruptive, discourteous, and unfair to instructors and to fellow students who are deprived of the total instruction period as a result.  Accordingly, students who are late for class…may at the discretion of the instructor, be denied admittance to the class meeting, and be awarded an absence mark for the class.” –BCC Catalog

A student is considered tardy if he/she enters class after work and/or instruction has begun.

Three tardies/ leaving early equals one absence.

  • One assignment grade and one test grade will be dropped.
  • No late assignments will be accepted.
  • No make-up test will be given without prior permission from the instructor.
  • For withdrawal procedures and grades see the college catalog.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

In addition to good academic performance, students should exhibit honesty and integrity. If there is any question that academic honesty and integrity are not honored, students may be required to redo assignments in the presence of an instructor-selected monitor. Proof of dishonesty, including plagiarism, will make students subject to disciplinary action.

From BCC Catalog:

“Students who violate the academic honesty policy, either directly or indirectly, are immediately responsible to the instructor of the course. The instructor has the authority to assign an “F” or a “zero” for the exercise or examination, and/or assign as “F” in the course.”
