Course Description:

Cos 113 covers more comprehensive cosmetology concepts.  Topics include

cosmetology sciences, hair care, nail care, and the business of cosmetology.  Upon completion, students should be able to safely and competently apply these cosmetology concepts in the salon setting.

 

 Cos 114 provides experience in a simulated salon setting.  Topics include basic skin care, hair color, hair design, product knowledge, hair cutting, chemical restructuring, nail structure and care, and other related topics.  Upon completion, students should be able to safely and competently demonstrate these salon services.

Implements, Equipment, Supplies Required:

 Study Guide, Practical Workbook, Theory Workbook, Student CDRom.

 Student notebook (3-ring binder), pens, pencils

 

Grading Procedure:  7(seven)-point system as described in the BCC catalog will apply.

Lab assignments and class participation will be considered in the final grade.  Each student will be responsible for all material covered during his or her absence, please call the instructor to receive this information.  If a test is given while a student is absent, the test must be taken on the first day of their return.  Makeup exams will be at a higher degree of difficulty and will have a 10 point penalty attached if the absence is unexcused.

Only Physician’s excuses and excuses issued by a court of law will be accepted.

Attendance:  Attendance at all class meetings is expected.  Absences must not exceed 20% of scheduled class time during the course of the semester.  Students whose absences exceed 20% of all scheduled contact hours will be dropped from the course due to excessive absences.

 

Cell Phone Policy: Cellular telephones, beepers, two-way radios, and similar devices may cause distraction and/or disruption of the learning environment.  Students are to keep all such devices turned off during class.  Students with extenuating circumstances must seek permission from the instructor to have such devices turned on in class.

Method of Instruction: Lecture, discussion, demonstrations and guided lab work with evaluation of student’s skills by chapter tests, practical evaluations and a comprehensive final exam.

 

Method of Evaluation: Cos 113(Theory):  Daily assignments and projects will be averaged and count as 25% of your final grade.  Chapter tests will count as 50% of your grade.  Your final exam will count as 25% of your grade.   (Your lowest chapter test grade will be dropped before the other chapter tests are averaged). 

 

Method of Evaluation: Cos 114(Practical):  A practical application grade sheet must be completed before the week of final practical exams.  This sheet counts as 25% of the final grade.  A grade of “0” will be given for each grade not completed.  Uniform/appearance, sanitation procedures and attendance will count as 25% of your final grade.  Assignments and projects - 25%.   Final exam - 25%.
