II.                                           Course Description:

This course provides an introduction to computers. Topics include the impact of computers on society, ethical issues, and hardware/software applications. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role

and function of computers and use the computer to solve problems.

 

III.                                         Text:

Technology in Action; Evans, Poatsy; copyright 2005; Prentice Hall.

Students will need two RW CDs. One CD will be turned in for grading at the

end of the semester. All projects and assignments will be saved to the CD.

VI.                                         Method Learning:

Text, lecture, assignments, lab exercises, discussion, handouts. Students will

also be responsible for helping and tutoring others in the class.

 

VII.                                       Attendance:

Students are expected to attend class and be punctual. Should difficulties arise, contact the instructor. When absent, students should pick up assignments from another student. This is a hands on acquired skills by doing class.

 

VIII.                                     Tests and Assignments:

Students are expected to complete assignments on time and be present for test dates.

Pop quizzes may be given on assignments. The assignments must be completed diligently for the student to reach an acceptable level of competence.

      

IX.                                        Final/Project:

The final exam is a project in which the student builds a computer writing the important specifications. This requires research and in depth work to have appropriate understanding.

       

X.                                          Projects(3):

One project in each of the applications; Word, Excel, and Powerpoint will be submitted by the student. Projects are selected by the student and will illustrate as many skills as acquired.

 

XI.                                        Cell phones, pagers, other communication devices:             

These devices are not permitted to be on  in the classroom. No connections or

other ear devices are permitted.
