COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

This course is provides accuracy and speed-building drills. Emphasis is placed on diagnostic tests to identify accuracy and speed deficiencies followed by corrective drills. Upon completion, students should be able to keyboard rhythmically with greater accuracy and speed.

COURSE COMPETENCIES:

 

At the end of this course the student will be able to:

 

v         Build keyboarding speed while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.

v         Identify key stroking weakness.

v         Upgrade keyboarding skills through technique development, individualized error analysis, and individualized prescriptive weaknesses.

TIME SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES

 

Students will complete eight keyboarding and corrective cycles. Each cycle consists of the following schedule:

 

            Day 1:        Warm-up—5 minutes

                              Two 5-minute Timed Writing Pretests—15 minutes

                              Diagnostic Tests—15 minutes

                              Viewing Charts—5 minutes

                              Accuracy and Speed Corrective Practice—25 minutes

                              Skill Development Paragraphs—10 minutes

 

            Day 2         Warm-up—5 minutes

                              Accuracy and Speed Corrective Practice—60 minutes

                              Skill Development Paragraphs—10 minutes

 

            Day 3         Warm-up—5 minutes

                              Accuracy and Speed Corrective Practice—60 minutes

                              Skill Development Paragraphs—10 minutes

 

            Day 4         Warm-up—5 minutes

                              Accuracy and Speed Corrective Practice—25 minutes

                              Two 5-minute Timed Writing Posttests—15 minutes

                              Diagnostic Tests—15 minutes

                              Viewing Charts—15 minutes

 

COURSE MANAGEMENT

 

  1. Administrative Withdrawal:  Class attendance of 100 percent is expected. If absences exceed 20 percent (7 hours or 3 consecutive weeks), the student will be dropped from the course with a grade of F.

 

  1. Student Initiated Withdrawal:  A student may initiate withdrawal before midterm with a grade of W. After midterm, the student will receive a grade of WF unless there is written proof of an extenuating circumstance.

 

  1. Students are required to complete all assignments. A written excuse accepted by the instructor is required for a make-up test.
