This course
covers basic knowledge necessary for gaining and maintaining employment. Topics include job search skills, work
ethics, meeting employer expectations, workplace safety, and human relations. Upon completion, students should be able to
successfully make the transition from school to work.

Course Outline:
Week 1: Monday, January 6 Resume Research & Writing
Week 2: Monday, January 13 Cover Letter Research & Writing
Week 3: Monday, January 27 Appropriate Business Dress
Week 4: Monday, February 3 Dos and Don’ts of Interviewing
Week 5 Monday, February 10 Conduct
a Mock Interview/ In class as well as outside of class.
Week 6: Monday, February 17 Employer/Employee Relations (Case Analysis)
Week7: Monday, February 24 Employer/Employee
Relations (Case Analysis)
Week8 Monday, March 3 Wrap
Up/Final Exam

10 points will be deducted for each hour absent: 2
points for every 10 minutes late

Resume and Cover Letter must be error free
Ø
A one page report and visual on appropriate dress for
the workplace at least 2 outfits
Ø
A one page report on Dos and Don’t of Interviewing,
appropriate questions to ask etc.

You will have 4 (Cases to analyze) (Written as well as
Oral Presentation)
