I grew up in the Bladenboro area, attended
Bladenboro Schools through my 10th grade year, and finished the last
two years of my high school education at Waccamaw Academy in Whiteville. I attended Southeastern Community College after high school, before transferring to
North
Carolina State University. I graduated from State in 1994, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
I then attended Appalachian
State University, where I
earned a Master of Arts in Psychology (1999), and an Education Specialist
Degree in Higher Education: Administration (2000). While attending Appalachian
State University, I began teaching courses at Caldwell Community College (Boone Campus) as an adjunct instructor.
I also worked as a statistics tutor, a mentor for student athletes, as a
testing proctor and tutor with disabled student services, and as a graduate
assistant with The National Center for Developmental Education (NCDE) and The
Kellogg Institute.
After attending Appalachian State University, I was accepted into the Ph.D. program in
Developmental Psychology at North Carolina State University. While at State I worked in the Cognitive Development Lab
as a researcher, where I ran experiments to learn about how memory processes
change as we age. During this time I also taught both Introduction to
Psychology and Developmental Psychology for the Psychology Department. I have
completed all of the course work for the Doctorate, but have not yet finished
the dissertation.
