The Bladen Community College WIA (Workforce Investment Act) Program is a federally funded designed to enhance educational, interpersonal, social and citizenship skills which aid students in becoming more self-sufficient. The WIA Youth Program uses our steps to career pathway which included Exhibit Strong Leadership, Establish a Network of Effective Partnerships, Mobilize Guidance to Support Career Pathways, and Set Up Articulation to Postsecondary Education. The WIA Youth Program targets students with barriers such as having a basic skills deficiency, a parenting youth, economic hardship (low income), run away youth, etc. We focus on youth development activities that emphasizes on the connection between learning and work. The target population for each group is as follows: Grouping Age Range In-School Youth 14-18 Drop-Out/Alternative School 16-21 Out-of-School Youth 18-21 The Bladen WIA Youth Program Promotes academic and professional excellence. We assist students with preparation for both career and educational advancement by providing the following services: ■ College Touring ■ Summer Employment ■ Tutorial Services ■ Child Care Assistance ■ Job Shadowing ■ Travel Reimbursement ■ Incentive Trips ■ Motivational Sessions ■ Internships ■ Career Development ■
Assistance with senior fees, college tuition and books In addition, the
program has an employment opportunities component. The employment component is designed to assist youth in
developing good work habits, increasing academic skills and assisting
students in becoming more aware of the “World of Works”. The Bladen
