BLADEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE
ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM
MASTER CURRICULUM PLAN
Associate Degree Nursing Program Admission Criteria
The Associate Degree Nursing Program is designed to prepare competent, caring, and adaptable registered nurses in a challenging, interactive learning environment. Medical-Surgical Nursing, Pediatrics, Nutrition, Pharmacology, Research, and Current Issues are integrated into every Nursing course. Strengths of the program include an emphasis on diversity, critical thinking, evidence-based decision-making, family health, and collaboration in the community. Using specific criteria for selection, including a standardized entrance exam, twenty qualified students are admitted to the five-semester program every Fall. Eligible LPN’s and transfers may enter either in the Fall or Spring, on a space available basis.
Graduates of the program receive an Associate in Applied Science Degree, and are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), which is required for practice as a Registered Nurse. Graduates will be able to provide comprehensive nursing care to groups of clients throughout the lifespan, in a variety of health care settings, and will have heightened awareness of a rapidly-changing global society and dimensions of health care. Employment opportunities include hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, physicians’ offices, industry, and a variety of community agencies.
