BCC receives 2017 Tree Campus USA Award
The Arbor Day Foundation has recognized Bladen Community College with a 2017 Tree Campus USA Award. The honor is issued to colleges and universities that enjoy well-maintained and green-friendly campuses that meet five specific criteria.
The college must have an active Campus Tree Advisory Committee, a Campus Tree Care Plan, a Campus Tree Program with dedicated funding, an Arbor Day Observance, and Service Learning Projects.
The Arbor Day Foundation provides opportunities for student learning and public awareness of the benefits of sustaining green and productive environments.
BCC Director of Evening Programs and committee chair Kathy McGurgan remarked, “This is the second year that we have been awarded this recognition. Bladen Community College is dedicated to maintaining a green landscape, not only because of the healthy living benefits that trees and plants provide, but also because we understand the beauty that a green landscape brings to our environment.”
The college will celebrate the award at the annual Arbor Day celebration in April.
