What is a Telecourse?

A Telecourse is a course offered via videocassette, lectures, programs, or classes enhanced by corresponding texts, study guides, and instructor-developed materials.

Background

All Bladen Community College telecourses are offered via videocassette which students watch at their convenience in the location of their choice. The telecourses offered and the supplemental instructional materials should parallel traditional courses. A statewide committee has evaluated the instructional material leased from our vendors, and this committee sanctioned these courses as comparable to the equivalent course listed in the North Carolina Community College System Common Course Library. Bladen Community College instructors should also evaluate the materials prior to agreeing to teach the course. The distance education coordinator at Bladen functions as the liaison between the telecourse producers and the academic departments. The coordinator provides interested faculty with telecourse information, preview videos, and assistance with lease agreements if a course is selected. The decision to offer a telecourse is made by the distance coordinator and the Vice-President of Instruction.
