| HEALTH SERVICES |
| The institution provides an effective
program of health services and education consistent with its purpose and
reflects the needs of its constituents.
The College does not assume responsibility for injuries incurred by students participating in athletic events, physical activity courses, class, or student activities. A student accident insurance policy is provided. This policy only covers injuries caused by accidents that occur during the hours that the school is in session and/or while the student is taking part in a school activity which is under the supervision and control of the College. In case of an emergency on campus, the employee in charge of the activity in the area where an emergency occurs will notify the receptionist by dialing "0". The receptionist will contact a nursing instructor and the Vice President of Administrative and Fiscal Affairs. The nursing instructor will determine whether the victim should be transported to a medical facility immediately, whether the rescue squad should be called, or whether first aid alone is sufficient treatment. The receptionist will call the rescue squad by dialing "911". The Vice President or nursing instructor may appoint another employee to transport the victim to the hospital or doctor's office. Medical services are available at the Emergency Room of the Bladen County Hospital. First aid kits are strategically located throughout the campus and selected employees of the college are EMT and CPR qualified. Through the educational network (EDNET) satellite service, the North Carolina Community College System provides students with information programs pertaining to environmental health and safety issues. Also included as a component of the health service and education program, Bladen Community College has a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program which is published in the student handbook. The College also has a Drug-free workplace policy and an Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome Policy. Details of these two policies may be found in the employee handbook. Bladen Community College maintains high
safety standards on campus, as a part of the overall safety program. The
Vice President of Administrative and Fiscal Affairs is responsible for
safety programs. The health services and education program are the responsibility
of the Vice President of Student Services.
