The Livestock and Poultry Technology curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers in the production, processing and distribution of livestock and poultry and their products according to scientific principles essential to efficient and profitable operation.
Students should learn skills necessary for the operation of efficient and profitable livestock enterprises. Courses are included in the areas of production practices, animal health, nutrition, reproduction, and management.
Graduates are qualified for entry-level jobs as herd or flock managers,field service persons, feed sales persons,equipment sales persons,feed mill worker, and buyers of poultry and livestock.
This program leads to a Diploma. To be eligible for graduation, the student must have satisfactorily completed the course requirements as outlined below.
To qualify for admission into this program, the applicant must have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
Bladen Community College is authorized to offer these courses through a collaborative arrangement with Sampson Community College. After completing these courses, the student may continue his/her studies at Sampson Community College in order to earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Livestock and Poultry Technology.

Swine Management is a concentration under the curriculum title of Livestock and Poultry Technology. This curriculum is designed to provide students with an understanding of current production and management practices being utilized in the swine industry.
Students are taught skills necessary for operating an efficient and profitable swine enterprise. Course work includes production practices, swine health, reproduction, housing, reproduction, housing, records management, waste management and personnel management.
Graduates should qualify for employment opportunities in the swine industry such as owners/operators, farm managers, department supervisors, field service representatives and waste management technicians.
This program leads to a Diploma. The College is authorized to offer through a collaborative arrangement with James Sprunt Community College. After completing these courses, the student may continue his/her studies at James Sprunt in order to earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree.
To qualify for admission into this program, the applicant must have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
