Six Continuing Education students receive Golden Leaf scholarships
Source Date: July 17, 2012
A group of Bladen Community College Continuing Education students are all smiles this week after receiving scholarships from the Golden LEAF Foundation on Thursday, July 12, 2012. The Continuing Education Department had six recipients this summer who were recognized as top performers in their respective classes and awarded scholarships.
The students are Jennifer McKoy, Caleb Bryan, Jessica Stanley, Tonya Mers, John David Nance and Don Eddings.
Jennifer, a displaced worker, is using her scholarship to jump-start her new career in the medical office field. Caleb and Jessica, both nursing assistant students, said they were going to use their scholarships to pay for the certification exam at the end of the course. Tonya, an EMT-Basic student, says she is having a great class and is looking forward to finishing up and starting to work as an emergency medical technician. John David Nance, a welding student, said his scholarship was a great help in providing transportation to further his education at Bladen Community College. Don Eddings said his scholarship came at the right time and will be used to cover expenses while in EMT-Basic training.
The Golden LEAF Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1999 to help transform North Carolina's economy. Through Golden LEAF scholarship opportunities, it is hoped students will complete training, gain employment, and help rural communities prosper.
