Bladen Community Announces Student Awards for 2021
Each spring, Bladen Community College recognizes students with outstanding academic and personal achievements at a special ceremony. However, the COVID-19 pandemic changed this year’s plans and the annual event was not held. Honorees were recently mailed a congratulatory letter from the college president, Dr. Amanda Lee along with certificates of achievement. In her letter, Dr. Lee included the following remarks. “I hope you will remain inspired to always apply yourself and to set a standard of excellence that is above the rest for your work and expectations. You have represented the college well and we are not only proud of you, but also excited about your potential and the positive impact you will have in our community. Please take a moment to pause, celebrate, and reflect on your award. It is an honor for us to recognize you!”
Each department or program division of the college annually selects and recognizes an outstanding student for their performance in those respective program of study. Students who received awards this year are: Thomas W. Mundell – Agri-Business Technology; Nathan T. Swain, Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology; Kalab N. Jacobs – Carpentry, Career and College Promise; Georgia Mallette – Practical Nursing; Jazmin Baza-Slagado – Early Childhood Education; Candace Leggett – Associate Degree Nursing (Second Year); Latasha Breanna Stephens – Adult High School Diploma; Michael Guyton –Math & Science, College Transfer; Lily Lin – Math & Science, Career and College Promise; Breeanna Kimbrell – Cosmetology, Career and College Promise; James Labra – Bladen Early College, Career and College Promise; Selena Nino – Electrical Systems Technology, College and Career Promise; Austin Locklear – Welding Technology; Jacqueline Contreras – Cosmetology; Jacquelyn Horton –Humanities & Social Sciences College Transfer; Jackson Avery Norris– Electrical Systems Technology; Wenda C. Graham – Medical Office Administration; Jamie L Bisbee– Information Technology; Sheila F. Cromartie – Office Administration; Dustin Hickman – Industrial Systems Technology; Fabiola Sandoval Barrios– Humanities & Social Sciences, Career and College Promise; Grayson Clark – Welding Technology, Career and College Promise; Makayla Williams – Emergency Medical Science; Brady Hollingsworth – Emergency Medical Science, Career and College Promise; Hannah R. Britt – Business Administration; and Bradley Sims, Jr. – High School Equivalency/GED.
Campus award and state award nominees as follows: Hannah Wheeless, Academic Excellence Award; Michael Dunbar, Robert Scott Leadership Award, and Cecil Butler, Dallas Herring Achievement Award.
The Student Government Association recognized officers as follows: Michael Dunbar, President; Riley Clewis, Vice-President; Ashley Norris, Secretary, Tristin Stitz, Parliamentarian, and Clinton Tyckeley, SGA Senator.
Hannah Wheeless, Robin McDonald, Nicholas Norris, Anthony Milano, and Bradley Hollingsworth were recognized as Bladen Community College Ambassadors. Students apply and are selected annually to represent the college in various campus and community activities.
