This course introduces the student to the carpentry trade. Topics include duties of a carpenter, hand and power tools, building materials, construction methods, and safety. CAR 113 Carpentry III

This course covers interior trim and finishes. Topics include safety, hand/power tool use, measurement and layout, specialty framing, interior trim and finishes, cabinetry, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to safely install various interior trim and finishes in a residential building with supervision.

CAR 114 Residential Bldg Codes

This course covers building codes and the requirements of state and local construction regulations. Emphasis is placed on the minimum requirements of the North Carolina building codes related to residential structures. Upon completion, students should be able to determine if a structure is in compliance with North Carolina building codes.

CAR 115 Res Planning/Estimating

This course covers project planning, management, and estimating for residential or light commercial buildings. Topics include planning and scheduling, interpretation of working drawings and specifications, estimating practices, and other related topics.
