From the President’s Desk – April 2021

It’s been quite a year since Bladen Community College made the announcement to transition to online learning.  Last spring, none of us knew that the COVID-19 pandemic would impact our lives to such a degree and create so many changes.

Thanks to the discipline and resilience of our students, faculty, and staff, learning never stopped.  The commitment of everyone, as well as the support of the community, helped us stay true to our mission. We are emerging from this pandemic more student centered and future focused than ever.

Bladen Community College was innovative and creative in supporting our students. We provided loaner laptops; hotspots for Internet access; local wireless access; academic counseling, advising, and tutoring by phone or by internet or even in-person when necessary.   We strived to have flexibility with deadlines and consideration of new ways of working to accommodate a variety of student needs. Students have access to the Eagle’s Nest – our campus food pantry and online mental health resources. When times are difficult, the Bladen Community College family pulls together and offers each other support.

As we prepare for the future we recognize that things will be different – that we are all different from this experience. Spring graduation will take place May 14, 2021.  Ceremonial remarks will be virtual, but we hope the restrictions will be lifted enough that we are planning to offer an outdoor celebration to mark the occasion.

Another important date to note is that registration for anyone interested in summer and fall classes began in mid-  April.  Current students have the opportunity to seek assistance from their faculty advisors to chart their educational journey for the future and prospective students have our new advising center available to assist them every step of the way.

We reaffirm to you our commitment to provide an opportunity for education to anyone who is interested.  We also promise to continue to do all we can to mitigate the risks of this virus and keep our campus safe.  Our faculty have worked diligently to apply innovative approaches to teach students in a variety of settings.  Our staff have continued to work tirelessly behind the scenes to meet the needs of our students.

Spring is a time of growth and renewal. We have all grown over this past year and are emerging stronger and better prepared for the future than ever before.  Thank you for your support of Bladen Community College.  Best wishes for safe and healthy days ahead.
